Protests in
Spain
By Anas Algahamdi
There are a lot of
people around the world who are protesting for their independence and they are
doing as much as they can to achieve what they want. These days there are a big
demonstrations occurring in Spain. The purpose of this demonstration is to
demand that Catalonians’ secede from Spain. On 27 of September, the Catalonians
went out in Catalonia’s streets to protest against the government of Spain.
Also, Catalonians are protesting, because they want their freedom, rights and to
establish self-governances.
Catalonia is
located in north-east Spain. Also, Catalonia is the sixth largest region in
terms of area in Spain. Barcelona is the biggest city in this area, also it is
the second biggest city in Spain. So, the first reason that Catalonians want to
secede from Spain is that the Catalonians pro-independence believe that
Catalonia is a nation because it has its own history, language, and culture. The
second reason is many Catalonians believe that the Spanish government has
damaged the economy of Catalonia. Nowadays, Catalonians are doing concrete
things to secede from Spain. According to Sky news in the article, Separatists
Win Majority in Catalan Elections “on Sunday 27 Sept the Catalonians went to
cast their vote to the polling stations in local parliamentary elections”
(2015). Moreover, there are a lot of expectations that expect the success of
election there.
In conclusion, this wasn’t
the first time that the Catalonians protested, but they hope they will be now
closer to independence. If, these protests aren’t successful, at this time
there are many Catalonians who believe that they will be more successful than
the last.
